The tour takes place on the beautiful campus overlooking the local harbors, conveniently located adjacent to downtown, and includes The Sitka Fine Arts Camp, Sitka Summer Music Festival, and Sheldon Jackson Museum. Your walking tour runs for 1.5 hours. You will visit the buildings, learning the history of Sitka, starting 10,000 years ago with the indigenous people, the Tlingit. You will learn about the Russian occupation, into America’s purchase, Alaska World War II, statehood, and to the present. Expect to have a half-hour at the Sheldon Jackson Museum, which is the oldest museum in Alaska, with the best collection of Native artifacts, it is a gem.
