The Friends of Sheldon Jackson Museum is a nonprofit organization that supports the education and outreach programs of the Sheldon Jackson Museum. The Friends support the museum by assisting in purchasing new artifacts for the Museum’s permanent collection, a “hands-on” educational collection which educators all over Alaska can check out and use in their classrooms and serve as volunteer docents and greeters to assist visitors in the museum gallery.

Built in 1967, during Alaska’s Centennial celebration, the building is still one of the finest in the state. It houses the Sitka Historical Society, a local history collection located in the Sitka Historical Museum (formerly known as the Isabel Miller Museum), an auditorium for public use, Baranof Arts and Crafts Association (in the summer months), a wildlife display, and an information desk (with visitor information in the summer months). A large hand-carved Tlingit canoe made from one log is displayed under a sheltered area near the building.

Sitka Lutheran Church is the site of the first Protestant church on the west coast of North America which contains original artifacts from the original 1843 Finnish Lutheran Church. They include a 1844 Kessler organ built specifically for the Church in Estonia, a chandelier, pulpit, and communion rail. Sitka Lutheran Church was founded in 1839-40 by “Finns” who worked for the Russian American Company in Alaska. Located on Lincoln Street in the heart of downtown Sitka. From mid-May to mid-September, Monday – Saturday, trained volunteers offer FREE tours and literature.
Sitka Trail Works, Inc. is a non-profit membership organization dedicated to the development, maintenance, and promotion of Sitka area trails. Occasional guided hikes, maps, volunteer trail maintenance, and special events are offered throughout the summer.
